Mommy went on a trip to the hospital. She has been admitted into good ol' F Ground. She is happy to embark on the treatment journey and get rid of her cancer cells especially since her WBCs clocked in at 176,000 upon arrival.
Mema accompanied Mom for admission and stayed by her side faithfully to make sure all was kosher. Daddy visited Mommy after we turned in for the night.
Tomorrow Mom will get her PICC line, a bone marrow biopsy, an echo and meet with the rounding doctors. Chemo may also begin. She is finding her pimpy hospital bed quite cosy and feels like she is in good hands now that she is back on the Farm.
Mom learned today that her induction chemotherapy regime will be a 5-day protocol called MEC. If Mom gets into remission after induction, she will likely do one outpatient consolidation round followed by the stem cell transplant preparation treatment. She will learn more when she meets with the hematology and BMT specialists tomorrow.
The researchers who have been following Mom since her initial diagnosis in February 2012 are continuing to use her marrow and blood for research. Hopefully what they discover will help others in the future with AML.
